Rep. Sosnowski calls on Governor to stop using taxpayer dollars on non-citizens

State Representative Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, issued the following statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s recent acknowledgement to news outlets that the state has diverted some taxpayer funds to provide services to migrants residing in Illinois after illegally crossing the U.S. southern border:

“Illinois taxpayers have needs that are not fully being met due to inflation and the cost of living, high property taxes, and on the issues of crime and public safety, education, protecting children in the DCFS system, and providing health care for our veterans living in state care. The Governor allowed the temporary tax cuts on gas and groceries to expire this summer, adding a bigger financial burden on Illinois families, while he continues to write a blank check to provide services to non-citizens. I am calling on the Governor to stop all diversions of state funding to non-citizens. Our priority should be to direct state resources toward benefiting taxpayers and the most vulnerable citizens of our state.”

Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District which includes portions of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
