Rep. Sosnowski statement on indictment of four close Madigan associates in ComEd bribery scheme

Former Speaker of the House Michael J. Madigan, D-Chicago.

State Representative Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) issued the following statement today following the federal indictment on Wednesday of four close associates of Speaker Michael J. Madigan on charges of bribery conspiracy, bribery, and willfully falsifying ComEd books and records:

“The culture of corruption in Illinois must be put to an end. Speaker Madigan is responsible for the culture he has nurtured throughout his decades in power. Come January, he will have been in office for 50 years. It is time for the Special Investigating Committee of the House of Representatives to finish its work and vote that we remove Madigan as Speaker of the House as swiftly as possible.”

“Even before the formal committee action, I urge my Democratic colleagues to remove him as Speaker of the House immediately.  The 73 members of the majority party have that authority right now, and the residents of the State of Illinois need those members to do the right thing and remove him from power.”

Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District which includes portions of Winnebago and Boone Counties.
