State Representative Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, issued the following statement after the Illinois House of Representatives voted along party lines Friday evening to approve House Bill 2777 creating new legislative district maps for the next 10 years:
“Mike Madigan may be gone, but his way of doing business is still alive and well in Springfield. When he ran for Governor, JB Pritzker said he supported fair maps and promised to veto any map drawn by politicians because he knows politicians should not get to choose their own voters. He’s prepared now to break that promise. If we’re ever going to achieve property tax relief, protect educational choice for families, and attract jobs and opportunity back to Illinois, we need a clean break with Madigan-era politics.
“These new partisan gerrymandered maps mean Illinois families can expect a continued push for higher taxes, more state mandates on our schools, and far-left policies that chase more jobs and job creators out of our state.”
Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District, which includes portions of Winnebago and Boone Counties.
