State Representative Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, issued the following statement after the Illinois House of Representatives voted along party lines Tuesday evening to approve Senate Bill 927 creating new legislative district maps for the next 10 years:
“There are no checks and balances in Springfield and the majority is not interested in working together. There is a better way to draw maps. The fair maps process that the Governor endorsed during his campaign is the way to take politics out of the redistricting process. Unfortunately, the Governor has demonstrated by his actions that he has become a part of the same broken political system that has dominated Springfield for decades, where decisions are made to benefit the party in power over what is best for the people of Illinois.”
“In order to achieve property tax relief, protect educational choice for families, and attract jobs and opportunity back to Illinois, we need a Governor who keeps his promises and breaks from politics as usual. JB Pritzker is not that Governor.”
Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District, which includes portions of Winnebago and Boone Counties.
