Rep. Sosnowski statement on Trump removal from Illinois ballot

State Representative Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, issued the following statement in response to a Cook County judge’s order to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot in Illinois:

“The Cook County judge’s ruling to disqualify President Trump from the Illinois Primary ballot sets a dangerous precedent. Activist judges and unelected bureaucrats in a handful of states – now including Illinois – are abusing their power by removing a candidate for President of the United States from the ballot without due process and denying voters across our state the right to support the candidate of their choice. This court ruling reinforces the growing concern of many Illinoisans that our judicial system and electoral process are being weaponized by individuals in power against their political opponents. The U.S. Supreme Court should strike down the Cook County judge’s ruling without delay and restore the right of Illinoisans to vote for President Trump.”

Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District which includes portions of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
