Rep. Sosnowski offers Summer Reading Program to K – 6th grade students

State Rep. Joe Sosnowski, R-Rockford, is offering his 14th Annual Summer Reading Program for kindergarten through sixth grade students who live or attend school in the 69th District, which includes portions of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties. The “Soar Into Reading” program is offered to encourage students to start or maintain positive reading habits.

All participants will receive a certificate of achievement, a coupon for free ice cream, and be entered for a chance to win prizes. Informational brochures on state programs for youth are available upon request.

“I have always been an avid reader and encourage my own kids to enjoy the limitless possibilities for adventure found in books,” Rep. Sosnowski said. “I hope kids join our reading challenge and make memories that will shape their future growth and inspire a passion for lifelong learning. The summer reading program can also be a time for families to unplug and enjoy quiet time together as a family.”

“Soar Into Reading” challenges students entering kindergarten – 6th grade to read ten (10) books over the summer. Books for local library programs are also acceptable, and books over 150 pages may count for two books.

Brochures were distributed to local elementary schools in May, but are also available online by clicking HERE. If you prefer to receive a copy of the brochure by mail, please call us at (815) 547-3436 and we’ll be happy to send you one! Participation in this program can overlap with any other summer reading programs offered through area libraries, schools, or other organizations.
