Rep. Sosnowski Reacts to Gov. Pritzker’s Congressional Testimony on Illinois’ Sanctuary State Policies

State Representative Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) issued the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s testimony in Washington, D.C. on Thursday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Governor Pritzker was called before Congress to testify about Illinois’ sanctuary state policies.

“Under Governor Pritzker, Illinois has become the go-to destination for illegal immigrants, where they receive taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits, housing, and more. Illinois law prohibits local law enforcement from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in their efforts to apprehend and remove dangerous illegal immigrants from our state.

The Governor’s testimony included his typical rhetoric of blame, deflection, and denial. We don’t need made-for-TV soundbites on serious public safety issues; we need to reverse the reckless policies that have made Illinois a magnet for illegal immigration. The migrant crisis has cost Illinois taxpayers over $3 billion since 2022, and that does not include education and other services. Governor Pritzker appearance before Congress shows that he intends to stubbornly continue to shelter non-citizen criminals and tax Illinois families to pay for their housing and healthcare benefits.”

Representative Sosnowski serves the 69th District which includes portions of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
